We can use the registry editor to make manual modifications to the Windows operating system environment. In this case, will disable the Windows Update for calling the Restart Required in Auto-update. Follow these quick steps to complete the registry fix process:

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Search for regedit.exe and open it
  3. Navigate to the registry key below by expanding the corresponding registry tree folders on the left of the window:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RestartRequired
  4. Once you have reached the Auto Update folder delete the key called RestartRequired by right-clicking on it and selecting Delete
  5. Now reboot and the loop is resolved

In some cases, you may need to go one step further and delete all currently downloaded updates. This can be done very quickly and easily from an elevated command prompt with administrative privileges.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Search for cmd.exe
  3. Right-click on cmd.exe and select Run as administrator
  4. In the black command line window type Net stop wuauserv and press enter
  5. Type Rd /s /q %SystemRoot%\SoftwareDistribution and press enter
  6. Restart your computer and check for updates




Restoring your system to an earlier point in time

If you have by accident deleted an incorrect item you can restore it by running system restore. Follow the steps below to go back in time!

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Search for System Restore and open it
  3. Press Next to continue
  4. Choose an earlier date and time
  5. Press Next to continue
  6. Press Finish to start the restore process
